This was so heartbreaking. Her friends came with consolations and suggestions to try a different facility. That is when she kept getting recommendations for Kijabe hospital. After conceiving, she visited us in our main Hospital at 7 weeks for her antenatal clinic – which is closest to her as a resident of Kajiado County. Due to her history, she was referred to the high-risk patient section where she had been attended to all through. At first, her clinics were in intervals of three weeks narrowing down to two, and finally one week as she approached delivery. At 31 weeks, she got admitted for five days. She got an injection to aid in developing the lungs of her baby. One week later as per the appointment for check-ups, she got examined and her baby was as big as 38 weeks at 32 weeks. At 33 weeks, Nelly walks into the hospital for a “normal check-up” as she calls it. Dr. Brian informed her that she was going to be admitted. She was not ready for that. “How can I get a child? I did not carry any clothing for the baby…” These were the questions running in her head. The doctors came to encourage her and explain how risky it would be if she went home. She finally accepted and had peace of mind. After a successful Caesarean section was done, Nelly’s baby was born at 3.03 Kg. A day after, Nelly visits her baby at the nursery. Watching her heart rate on the cardiac monitor, she recalls how hard it was for her to accept her unexpected admission. Truly, “It was God’s doing. When we meet her, she is holding baby Joy. The name is significant because now she can narrate a sorrowful journey that has turned to be a joyful one. It has been a tough patch since delivering her firstborn who now has a baby sister as a nine-year-old. I really appreciate the doctors from Kijabe for the great help they have given throughout this process. I acknowledge Dr. Brian, Dr. Elisa, and a special thank you to Dr. Viola for being a doctor and a friend. I thank God I am a happy mother of two”, concludes Nelly.
